Help support students who are dedicated to bettering their communities, families, and themselves through education. Your generous donation will fund the education of driven, young women in our community.
Women's Business Council is committed to supporting the growth and development of our members and young women in our community. In support of this commitment, WBC offers two types of scholarships:
The WBC Jump Start Scholarship is an annual merit-based award open to 12th grade students who identify as female in Champaign County to pursue higher education at an accredited post-secondary education institution. Each year, WBC awards $500 to goal-oriented, service-minded young women continuing their education. The Jump Start application period runs from mid-late February to early April each year.
We’re proud to announce WBC’s 2024 Jumpstart Scholarship winners!
Congratulations to Helene Jones, Savindi Devmal and Delaney Shore… We are happy to support these three outstanding high school graduates in diverse careers and skill sets that are ready make a “splash” on our future. We are so proud of you!
From St Joe, Helene is a “go-getter” with a heart for community service. She has been an active participant in volunteer work, including supporting programs fighting homelessness including CU at Home’s “One Winter’s Night”. She plans to attend University of Tennessee, starting with the Pathway Program in Chattanooga, TN for out of state students. This is an “invitation only” program that she was selected for that will help with the cost of attending this top-rated school.
Savindi graduated from U-High and has a passion for Healthcare. She is pursuing U of I’s Bio-engineering Program in the fall, with the goal of applying to Carle’s Illinois College of Medicine where she’ll be able to study the integration of engineering to improve patient’s quality of life through biotechnology. She wants to focus on bioprinting organs to avoid the wait of donor organs or the complication of transplants.
Delaney is from Mahomet, IL and plans to attend Ole Miss in the fall with a focus on Public Policy, then on to Law School. Her studies will send her down the path of politics, or practicing as an attorney with the possibility of eventually becoming a judge! One of Delaney’s extracurricular activities has been as a volunteer for the League of Women’s Voters in Champaign County.
The Women’s Business Council (WBC) Scholarship Fund was established in 1985. It was named the Ruth B. Jones Scholarship Fund in 1987 in recognition of Mrs. Ruth B. Jones, an outstanding member of the local business community.
The Ruth B. Jones Scholarship Fund is available to assist WBC members in continuing their education to either build upon their skills for a present career or to pursue a new career. WBC members may also apply for a scholarship to attend career-related conferences, seminars and workshops.
